Financial success doesn’t come naturally for everyone. For some people, great effort has to made in order to achieve any financial goals. Fortunately, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Chevrolet are sponsoring a series of helpful financial literacy workshops to help African Americans achieve financial success.
Where will the financial literacy workshops take place?
I will be attending the New York City workshop, but there will also be workshops in many other cities. Here is a list of all of the upcoming workshops:
- Brooklyn, NY – September 10 at the Harlem Commonwealth Council
- Detroit, MI – October 1 at Wayne County Community College
- Atlanta, GA – October 22 at Morehouse College
- Washington D.C. – November 12 at Howard University
- Oakland, CA – December 3 at Abyssinian Baptist Church
What will be covered at the financial literacy workshops?
One of the goals of the program is to assist with demystifying the complexities of college financing. Too many individuals with a great deal of potential forego college because their families simply can’t afford it, and they’re not aware of the many alternate ways of paying for college.
Understanding credit is another focus of these financial literacy workshops. Credit and everything involved in attaining and maintaining a respectable credit rating and score can be confusing. High credit utilization, inquiries and other credit-related topics can sound foreign to many individuals. Rainbow PUSH Coalition teaches those in attendance all about credit, making having good credit an easier goal to achieve.
Many people, especially those from low income families, are not educated in the long-term management of money. That is why these financial literacy workshops are so useful, because they teach individuals how to become successful at managing their money long-term, so they can become financially-secure in the future.
Finally, some people only dream of entrepreneurship, but just don’t know how to get started. With the help of these workshops, that dream can become a reality. The workshops will teach you how to get started, where to find funding, managing a business, and more.
Financial education is extremely important, and too many adults make financial decisions that they eventually regret. This can lead to undesirable situations like living paycheck-to-paycheck and possibly even bankruptcy.
