I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Genworth. I attended a live event and received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Genworth #LetsTalk Tour

Let’s face it, we’re all getting older. Aging is not something we like to talk about but it’s something we all need to do. My father retired a few years ago and my mom is nearing retirement age so now would be the optimal time to sit down and have a talk about their long term care plans.

It’s not an easy conversation to have though so that is why Genworth has kicked off the #LetsTalk campaign. Genworth’s Let’s Talk Tour kicked off in New York City on June 27 and 28, with actor Rob Lowe as the guest speaker. The purpose of the tour is to discuss the options consumers can take to protect themselves and their investments with regards to long term care and aging. Next stop on the tour is Chicago, July 9-13 in conjunction with Taste of Chicago. Other stops include Los Angeles, Aug.30-Sept.1, San Francisco, Sept. 6 and 7 and Dallas, Oct. 2-5. The purpose at each location is to have consumers share their stories about aging while hearing about the options that Genworth can provide.

The two biggest financial worries that our aging population will face is outliving retirement funds and experiencing an unexpected and uninsured health or long term care situation. Genworth believes it is never too late to start planning for aging care. One of the first steps in planning is determining the cost of long term care in the region where you live. Current statistics indicate that about 70 percent of individuals over age 65 will need long term care services at some point in their lives. The impact of medical care at this stage of life can significantly impact finances, careers, lifestyles and even peace of mind.

When a family member needs long term care, the impact can go way beyond dollars expended. Individuals may need to juggle schedules and responsibilities to take part in care giving. We’re experiencing that now with Philip’s parents. His parents are both way past retirement age, yet his mom still works. His dad suffered a serious injury at work about 10 years ago and as a result, he can no longer do many things on his own. There was never any discussion about long term care so Philip and his siblings have had to step in to help them out in a big way.

Genworth is committed to showing consumers how they can make small changes now that can positively impact their lives later. Without long term care insurance, both caregivers and recipients are forced to cut back significantly on discretionary spending, leading to overall decreased quality of life. Reports indicate that caregivers often spend a minimum of three years of their life caring for aging loved ones who cannot care for themselves. Having long term care insurance in place long before it is needed can help reduce some of the stress associated with aging and health.Let's Talk with Genworth
