reusable water bottlesA few years ago, we invested in some reusable water bottles. We were constantly purchasing cases and cases of bottled water from Costco and it was starting to get expensive. I logged on to my favorite online shopping site, Amazon.com and started browsing reusable water bottles.

There were so many bottles to choose from and I quickly became overwhelmed. Some were aluminum, some were stainless steel and some were plastic. Which one should I buy? At that point, I decided that I really needed to do some research before I made my purchase.

I quickly ruled out plastic reusable water bottles because of the whole Bisphenol A (BPA) scare. BPA is a chemical compound that has been used in the production of many hard plastic bottles and metal-based food and beverage cans since back in the 1960’s. Both the National Institutes of Health and FDA have expressed some concern about the potential for BPA to cause behavioral problems as well as causing behavior problems, and harm to the prostate gland in fetuses, infants, and young children.

Aluminum bottles, on the other hand, are often made with a lining to prevent metal from leaching into your water, which is potentially harmful and can cause a bad taste, so we passed on those as well.

Stainless steel water bottles seemed like a good fit for us. First and foremost, they are BPA-free.  They are made of food-grade stainless steel and will not leach toxins or chemicals into your beverage. Secondly, they are very sturdy . We’ve had our water bottles for a couple of years and besides a couple of dents, they are still in perfect condition. Finally, they are pretty easy to clean, and most can be cleaned in your dishwasher.

By using these reusable water bottles, we feel that we are helping the environment by reducing plastic bottle waste. In addition, we are saving money. You see, we have our own water supply via a private well. Why spend money buying bottled water, when we have our own water supply? We have a whole house water filtration system to make sure our water is sparkling fresh.

Since purchasing the water bottles, my family and I have been improving our health by drinking lots more water, because we carry them around with us just about everywhere we go.

Wanna help save the environment too? Make the switch to reusable water bottles! Don’t want to spend money on buying the bottles? I’m pretty sure that larger coffee mugs could serve as a water bottle in a pinch.

So tell me, do you use reusable water bottles in your home?
